Hello, there! I’m Matt, the creator of Oil Integrity. This website was made in August of 2023.
While there have been a scarce number of others testing oils on the Internet, I’ve found their data to be outdated, inaccurate and incomplete; that is: (1) Not providing important product details like manufacturing dates and from where the oil was acquired/purchased; (2) Not shaking the container of oil before testing it to ensure any settled additives at the bottom of the container are fully absorbed into the oil; (3) Not heating or adequately heating the oil during testing to engine/transmission operating temperature, and not using high quality measuring instruments for consistent results; (4) Not testing the oil’s maximum resistance to high temperature before its onset of thermal breakdown; (5) Not testing the oil’s evaporation loss in normal operating temperature; (6) Not properly coating all bearings in oil before beginning friction testing; and (7) Not showing evidence of testing, merely giving all data as hearsay.
All things aforementioned are important factors to consider and implement when conducting scientific testing of oil. If one is neglected, it can frustrate anyone observing the results, causing them to question the tester’s competence. And that’s why this website was created.
Moreover, my “obsession” with oil came about in early 2018. At the time, I was working as a courier using my own vehicle for deliveries. With that, I questioned how often I should change my engine and transmission oil. I figured the more miles I put onto my vehicle the faster the internal components would wear. That’s when I began an investigation into if oil brands made a difference among each other in wear protection. The results were shocking. There were huge differences.
Today, I’m no longer a courier; however, with my new understanding, I now like to know I’m putting the best of oil into all my engines and transmissions for my personal and work vehicles, outdoor equipment and anything else that requires oil. I want my stuff to last as long as possible, saving me as much money as possible before buying something new. Perhaps you share the same philosophy or maybe you enjoy redlining your engine. Whatever may be the case, you now have a legitimate index to use before your next oil purchase.
This website is a hobby of mine and one that I take very seriously. It can become very costly, and while I do accept donations and possibly sponsorships in the future, you can be assured that the ranking list indexes will never be manipulated. You’ll also be able to see with your own eyes the tests being done to avoid any skepticism. I find nothing wrong with making money so long as the integrity of the data provided isn’t compromised. It’s a win both for myself and any of my readers/followers.
